ENVIRONMENT WEEK

Right at the beginning of June NEP (The Ecological Nucleus of Pipa) celebrate their Environment Week to coincide with the international day of the environment on the 5th of the month. Founded in 1998, NEP play a fundamental role in local society for, as well as educating the population about rubbish, plants and animals and water, they are leading the development of the region towards sustainable living (without causing damage to the environment).

During the week’s celebrations, as well as environmental talks for the community and schools, there are nature trails, a public effort at cleaning up the beaches, processions and an unforgettable communal feijoada (the traditional Brazilian black bean and pork stew).
